Georgetown Police would like to share their annual report of activities in 2024, highlighting many initiatives taken to keep the community safe.
In 2024, Georgetown Police responded to 17,802 calls. This is a 3.17% increase from 2023.
Notable takeaways for calls for service were:
- 1,566 Emergency Calls (911)
- 119 Arrests
- 1,733 Traffic Stops
- 158 Motor Vehicle Crashes
The department also responded to numerous other calls including missing persons, larceny, identity theft, and fraud.
The department’s SRO responded to 308 service calls involving juveniles, many of these calls involved children who attended Georgetown Public Schools.
Georgetown Police also responded to 65 behavioral health calls. The department is fortunate to be able to share a Mental Health Clinician with neighboring towns. The clinician provides resources and a variety of training opportunities to the department which better prepares and educates officers to respond to calls involving individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. In years past, a call would be 10 minutes long with no solution. But today, by spending extra time with those individuals, officers are able to provide the necessary resources and assistance.
While the department’s call volume has increased a small amount, the complexities of each service request has required even greater commitment from officers. Officers are devoting their time to being proactive and connecting with the community.
“These numbers represent just a fraction of the calls we respond to on a daily basis. The dedication and commitment our officers have for the safety and security of Georgetown is unmatched,” said Chief Sedgwick. “Last year’s statistics also represent our proactive approach to policing, with numbers of arrests declining, in comparison to previous years. As we begin 2025, I want to remind residents that our department will continue to provide the highest level of policing and services to the community, just as we have always done. Officers are spending more time on calls to help community members get the help they need, through problem solving and providing resources. Our role is to serve and protect the Town of Georgetown, and our staff is dedicated to strengthening the relationships with our community at every level of service.”
