Georgetown Police shares the following information from the National Fraternal Order of Police (NFOP) as it relates to deaths and officers shot in the line of duty in 2024, nationally.
In 2024, 342 officers were shot in the line of duty, and 50 officers died as a result, according to the NFOP.
While the number of officers shot went down 9 percent since 2023, the number of officers killed went up 8 percent.
Georgetown Police would like to acknowledge and remember those who have lost their lives while serving their community this past year. The dedication and bravery of the men and women across the nation do not go unnoticed.
