The Georgetown Police Department currently maintains and operates a 2022 Harley Davidson FLHTP motorcycle. The Motorcycle Unit has 6 “Motor Officers” that are trained and certified to operate police motorcycles. The “Motor Unit” is utilized for a variety of assignments including:
- General Patrol
- Traffic Enforcement
- Community Events
- Parades
- Escorts
Additionally, our “Motor Unit” has several advantages over our traditional patrol cars. Our “Motor Unit” can respond to calls faster and easier in heavy traffic, and access areas like narrow streets and off-road trails, and other areas where larger vehicles cannot access. It is also more fuel efficient and economical to operate than a traditional patrol car. Most importantly, it is a great public relations and community policing tool.
