Georgetown Police Department Seeking Re-Accreditation from Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission

Chief David Sedgwick is pleased to announce that a team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC) will arrive on July 14, 2026, to conduct a comprehensive on-site evaluation of the Georgetown Police Department’s policies, procedures, operations, and facilities as the department seeks re-accreditation.

The assessment will span three days, with assessors working from the department’s community room. The team is composed of five experienced law enforcement professionals who have been specially trained by the Commission to perform these evaluations. The assessment will conclude on July 16, 2026 with a formal exit briefing conducted by the assessors. This review represents a critical component of our voluntary accreditation process through MPAC, demonstrating our continued commitment to meeting the highest standards in the law enforcement profession.

The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Program consists of 257 mandatory standards and 125 optional standards. To achieve accreditation status, the department is required to meet all applicable mandatory standards and a required percent of the optional standards for an agency of Georgetown’s size.

Since achieving official accreditation status in February 2007, the Georgetown Police Department has remained dedicated to maintaining and strengthening those standards. Continued accreditation through MPAC is a recognized mark of professional excellence and reflects our unwavering commitment to best practices, accountability, and service to our community.

As we prepare for this important review, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to our Accreditation Managers, Officer Courtney Thomas and Officer Jacob Fitzgerald, and to all members of the department who have contributed to this effort. Their dedication and professionalism are essential to achieving and maintaining accreditation.

We look forward to a successful assessment and to continuing our mission of serving the Georgetown community with integrity, professionalism, and excellence.
